In this project a cast was made from an object of our choice, I chose something that would give me an organic shape that would be interesting to experiment with.

EXPERIMENTING WITH MATERIAL

Below are a couple of skins made of a variety of different materials, but when it came to lighting they where unsuccessful in making interesting atmospheres.
  -  First Skin made up of cut out pieces of plastic, bend and structured to take the shape of a cast
  -  Second skin, bubble wrap was placed over the cast and put in the oven to heat. The plastic melted and took the form of the cast.
  -  Third skin is made up of dried pieces of paint then stuck on, this skin was a fail because it could not take the skape of the cast, was not able to support itself.
  -  Forth experiment, pasta was boiled and placed in glue then draped onto the cast. This skin was too messy to make a successful texture.

ORGANIC SKIN

The second skin was made with 5mm cut straws and stuck together piece by piece.

STRINGS

This skinis a combiniation of two materials, wire and yarn. Separated into thin strings, then stuck onto the wire cage, the yarn gave this skin a delicate but strong structure.
WEBBED SKIN

This skin is purly made from glue gun melted onto the cast. It was not randomly spread across the cast, a circular motion allowed the glue to melt and stick on smoothly as well as making a durable structure. When it came to lighting up the skin, a lot of interesting forms where made because the skin was so flexible.
